The Embassy of the United States of America in Kathmandu announced New Non-Immigrant Visa Application System

New Non-Immigrant Visa Application System
The Embassy of the United States of America in Kathmandu, Nepal has transitioned to a new fee payment, appointment and document delivery service for non-immigrant visas as of September 15, 2014. The new non-immigrant visa system, which is being implemented in phases at U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide, is designed to be more comprehensive and user-friendly.  It has replaced the past system of paying application fees and making visa interview appointments through Nabil Bank.  In addition to the new online system, there is now a customer service center available for applicants to obtain information by phone, as well as by email.  There is no charge for the call other than normal charges for a call within Nepal.

Information about Non-immigrant VisasFor information about the various types of non-immigrant visas to the United States, as well as who is required to apply for a visa, please seehttp://www.ustraveldocs.com/np.
Application FormThe non-immigrant visa application form, Form DS-160, must be completed on-line.  Please see https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/.  Please be sure to print the confirmation page once you have completed the form.
Payment of Application FeeOn September 15, 2014, Nepal Investment Bank Limited became the only authorized bank available for payment of non-immigrant visa appointments.  Nabil Bank no longer accepts visa application fees.   For full information on paying your fee at Nepal Investment Bank Limited, please seehttp://www.ustraveldocs.com/np
Making an AppointmentAs of September 15, 2014, applicants are now required to book their visa interview appointments online at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/np.  Alternatively, an applicant can book a visa interview appointment by calling our new call center for non-immigrant visa inquiries (see inquiries information below).  You can only book an appointment after you have paid the fee at Nepal Investment Bank Limited, and you have received a code number from the bank. This code will be printed on your receipt and is valid for making an appointment beginning the next business day after paying the application fee.  Applicants who have already paid an application fee and made an appointment under the old system through Nabil Bank should keep that appointment.
Emergency or Expedited AppointmentsApplicants who need to travel to the United States for emergency medical treatment or the sudden illness or death of a family member may be eligible for an expedited interview appointment.  If you wish to request an expedited appointment, you must first make a regular appointment.  After making an appointment, you may click on the Expedited Appointment Request button on the appointment page.  In the Expedited Appointment form, please explain the reason you are requesting an earlier appointment.  Only emergency cases, as determined by the Consular Section, will receive an earlier appointment date.  Please DO NOT e-mail any supporting documents to us.  Instead, bring any additional documents to the interview appointment.
Delivery of PassportsApplicants whose visas are approved will collect their passport and visa from one of six branches of Nepal Investment Bank Limited.  When you make your appointment, you will select a pick-up location from six different Nepal Investment Bank Limited locations across Nepal.  Applicants who made an appointment under the old system will collect their passport and visa from U.S. Embassy.
Special Information for Travel Agents and Visa ConsultanciesThe Embassy recommends that visa applicants avoid the use of travel agents and visa consultancies, but understands that these businesses can provide services that some applicants find convenient.  Travel agents and visa consultancies visit http://www.ustraveldocs.com/np, and carefully review the section “Travel Coordinator” under “Local Visa Programs”  to understand how they can use the new system to facilitate visa appointments for their clients.
